Muslim students in Malta on the increase

With Maria Camilleri as Headmistress, Mariam al-Batool remains the only Muslim school worldwide to be run by a Christian headmistress.

More than 350 boys and girls started this scholastic year at Mariam al-Batool, the only Muslim school in Malta that falls under the Directorate of Education.

The Assistant Head of Mariam al-Batool, Kenneth Busutill, said that over the past few years the Muslim community has been growing and, as a result, the number of Muslim students at the school has been growing too.

Busutill explained that one of the reasons for such an increase in Muslim students is due to the African conflicts that have been taking place over the past few years.
