Maltese more satisfied on employment than Europeans

Eurobarometer survey shows Maltese were more upbeat than the rest of Europe when asked about their employment.

The Maltese are far more satisfied with current employment conditions than their European counterparts.

A recent Eurobarometer survey carried out less than a month ago showed that 70% of the Maltese participants said they were pleased with their working conditions, 16% more than other European participants.

Moreover, while 43% of European respondents described their employment conditions as not satisfactory, only 20% of the Maltese participants answered in this way.

This survey defined employment conditions as an aggregate of the time spent at work, health and safety issues, how work is organized and distributed, workers’ representation and their relationship with the employer.

The Maltese were also more positive than the rest of Europe when asked about how employment conditions changed in the past five years.

40% of the Maltese believed their working conditions improved, in stark contrast with the mere 12% of Europeans who believed this.

On the other end of the spectrum, six in every ten Europeans believed the conditions worsened, four times more than the Maltese (15%).

The survey also reveals that the greatest concern of Maltese workers on health and safety proved to be the exposure to high stress levels.
