Two Gozo Channel vessels evacuated following bomb threat

Passengers on two Gozo Channel vessels evacuated following a bomb threat

This evening two Gozo Channel vessels were evacuated before leaving the Mgarr and Cirkewwa harbours after the police received a phone call in which they were told that a bomb was placed on one of the company’s ferry boats.

At around 6:40pm, passengers on two vessels were told to board down the vessels after the police received the bomb threat.

A Gozo Channel employee told MaltaToday that the two vessels were evacuated as a precautionary measure and the vessel leaving Mgarr, Gozo was almost at full capacity, which is around 900 passengers.

On the other hand, the vessel which left Cirkewwa to Gozo was only carrying a few passengers and had to return back to Malta once the crew was informed of the bomb threat.

The passengers stuck in Gozo have not yet been informed when they will be able to return to Malta and the AFM bomb disposal unit had not yet reached the vessel in Gozo to search the ferry boat.
