An ironclad fishing vessel that has reportedly been abandoned for the past five years caught fire in Marsa earlier this evening.

Transport Malta officials on site told MaltaToday that the cause of fire has not yet been determined. However onlookers said the fire broke out spontaneously.

MaltaToday's photographer filmed exclusive footage of the incident from onboard the Transport Malta RIB which was on site. The footage, shows the crew of tug boat MARI fighting the flames from the sea, while Civil Protection fire-fighters battled the flames from the Marsa quay. Floatsam from the fishing vessel could be seen floating away from the burnt out vessel.

The police are investigating the incident.
