An 18-year-old was arrested in connection with Saturday's incident in Paceville, which saw dozens injured after a railing at the entrance of a club gave way. The man allegedly released a gas spray into the air, causing panic as patrons experienced shortness of breath and burning in the lungs.

The directors of the company that runs the establishment in Paceville, where the stampede and subsequent railing collapse took place on Saturday night, will face court proceedings in the wake of the incident.

The French ambassador to Malta Beatrice le Fraper du Hellen appealed to the public to extend their prayers to those suffering in Libya and Syria. Mourners left flowers and candles at the French embassy in Valletta to mark the 129 lives lost in Paris on Friday, in a series of coordinated attacks across the capital.
