Customs discovers €35,000 in undeclared cash on airport passenger

A Georgian national has had €25,000 of his cash seized, pending investigation, and was placed under arrest by the Anti-Money Laundering section of the police

€35,000 was discovered on airport passenger. The discovery was made by Customs officials.

The cash was being carried by a Georgian national who was attempting to leave for Istanbul. The man was searched as part of routine searches targeting high risk flights.

Upon asking some questions, the Georgian passenger was asked to follow the officials to the Customs office. Subsequently the passenger’s belongings were thoroughly searched and €35,000 in several denominations and currencies were elevated.

€25,000 were seized pending investigation, whilst the passenger was placed under arrest by the Police, Anti-Money Laundering Section.
