Switzerland created the first real chance of the game after 7 minutes when Seferovic took the ball at the top of the box and turned excellently to free himself for the finish, but he placed it the wrong side of the post.

Seferovic went close again on the 16th minute when he raced onto Shaqiri's through ball, but fired his low finish straight at Tatarusanu.

Switzerland paid for missing these chances on the 18th minute as Romania were awarded a penalty after Lichsteiner fouled Chipciu inside the area. From the 11 metres, Stancu made no mistake and scored his second goal from the spot.

Switzerland responded immediately on the 20th minute when Schar took the ball down on his chest and unleashed a dipping, swerving volley that forced an excellent save from Tatarusanu to divert it over the crossbar.

The game kept getting interesting as Romania were close to double the score on the 27th minute when from a freekick, Switzerland failed to clear , and the ball fell to Sapanaru who turned and hit it straight away, but was denied by the post.

Romania went close again 7 minutes from the beginning of the second half after Djorou almost conceded an own goal. Torje volleyed a cross into the penalty area which was cleared by Djorou with the ball going slightly around the post.

This was followed by Switzerland terrific equaliser on the 57th minute. Romania failed to clear Rodriguez corner. The ball fell to Mehmeti who slammed it into the far corner of the goal behind Tatarusanu.

Romania had a chance to score their second goal on the 69th minute when Torje lined up a free-kick that seemed too far out for him to have a go, but he decided to try his luck, and his effort forced a solid stop from Sommer.

With neither side risking too much, the game ended in a 1-1 draw which leaves the Swiss on  top of Group A with four points, while Romania have one after two games.
