Sturridge and Vardy seal England comeback

Both strikers came off the bench to net a goal each that cancelled out Gareth Bale's opener and secured a 2-1 victory over Chris Coleman's side.

England controlled possession from the beginning and created the first good chance of this match on the 6th minute. The English launched a blistering counter-attack down the right flank with Lallana leading the charge. He moved forward into space before firing a perfect cross into the box that found Sterling, but the subsequent shot on goal ended up over the bar.

England went close again after 26 minutes when from Rooney’s free kick, Cahill managed to divert a header towards goal that was saved by the Welsh goalkeeper.

The English players kept putting pressure and protested for a penalty after the ball appeared to come off the hand of Davies. The referee waved away the protests and play continued.

The three lions were definitely the dominant side and created another chance on the 36th minute when from Rooney’s corner, Smalling headed the ball just outside the left post.

Against the run of play, Wales managed to open the score on the 42nd minute. Bale stepped up and fired a dipping 35-yard free-kick over the wall and into the bottom corner past Hart. This was the first goal that Wales has scored against England in 32 years.

Knowing that they need points from this match, Roy Hodgson introduced Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge in the second half to put more force in England’s attack. A tactical change which eventually turned out to be decisive.

The English side went close again on the 55th minute when Rooney picked up the ball on the edge of the box before beautifully opening his stride with a curled strike to the bottom corner, but was thwarted by the Wales keeper who deflected the ball behind for a corner.

England managed to score on the 57th minute after Williams' attempt to clear a cross went horribly in the wrong direction to Vardy, who scored from close range distance.

Wales tried to score their second goal on the 79th minute after Williams collected possession down the left wing before going past two challenges. He tried his luck with a blistering strike which went over.

At the dying parts of the match, England kept pushing on in their pursuit for the winning goal. They managed to get it 1 minute into the additional time when Sturridge picked up the ball on the edge of the penalty area and quickly exchanged a neat one-two with Alli before barging into the crowded box and squeezing a strike into the near post past the goalkeeper.
