Maltese midfielder Maya Lucia wins Cypriot league title with Apollon Ladies

The club, which includes Maltese midfielder Maya Lucia, faces a double header against Northern Ireland in the national team window next week

Apollon Ladies have been crowned champions of the Cypriot league, with the club set to head into the national team window as they prepare for a double header against Northern Ireland next week.

Among those representing Malta will be midfielder Maya Lucia, who signed a one-year contract with Apollon Ladies in October 2025.

The 22-year-old said the decision to join the Cypriot club came down to the approach of coach Laurent Fassotte. "He was the only coach who approached me and made it clear that he wanted to sign me on," Lucia said.

Fassotte had reportedly been following Lucia since her time with Malta's U-19 national team, where she caught his attention by scoring four goals against Cyprus.

The signing came after a busy spell across European football for Lucia, who has previously played for Gdansk in Poland, Genoa in Italy, and Split and Osijek in Croatia.
