Sliema Wanderers came from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Hamrun Spartans.

Hamrun created the first opportunity on goal after 5 minutes. Wilfried Domoraud delivered a cross towards Carlos Henneberg whose effort sailed marginally wide.

Sliema replied on the 34th minute. From a free-kick, Younes Marzouk saw his volley going over.

The Spartans had a goal disallowed two minutes later. Kevin Tulimieri’s cross was met by Henneberg who headed home. However, the assistant referee raised his flag as the Argentinian was judged to be in an offside position.

Tedesco’s men kept on insisting and threatened Sliema again on the 39th minute. Marco Criaco’s effort from a free-kick ended up centimetres off target.

Hamrun made an excellent start to the second half and opened the score on the 49th minute. Matias Muchardi floored Andre` Charles Scicluna inside the penalty area and the referee pointed towards the spot. Marco Criaco stepped up and converted.

Three minutes later, Tulimieri fired a shot from inside the penalty area that was blocked by Jake Galea.

However, Sliema hit back and equalised on the 55th minute. Substitute John Mintoff squared the ball for Younes Marzouk who placed the ball inside the net from close range.

The Wanderers forged ahead for the first time in the match on the 62nd minute. Following a corner, Michele Sansone’s delivered a cross that was met by Ignacio Varela who slotted the ball inside the net.

Hamrun tried to make a reaction and went close on the 74th minute. Criaco received the ball inside the penalty area and fired a shot that failed to hit the target.

Sliema's assistant coach was sent off the bench on the 76th minute. Ivan Woods was asked by the referee to leave the pitch after protesting harshly with the officials.

During the remaining minutes, Hamrun decided to put more players in front, but found a solid defence in front of them as Sliema held firm to take home three precious points.

Following this result, the Wanderers climbed fourth ahead of Hamrun who sit one point behind them.
