Women’s national basketball team wins bronze at European Championships

During the past month alone, Malta managed to gain 4 medals – a gold medal for the male under-16 team, silver for the female under-16 team, silver for the men's national team, and the bronze medal for the women's national team.

The female national basketball team won the bronze medal in the European Championship for Small Countries after beating Scotland in the third-place play-off.

In the group stage, Malta lost 46-85 against an Iceland team which eventually went on to win the group. Malta then beat Gibraltar 25-93 to finish second in Group B and secure a place in the semi-finals. Here they met Austria - who would eventually go on to win the competition - and lost 58-46.

Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youth and Sports Chris Agius congratulated the squad and team coach Adamoli Angela, as well as her assistant, Christoph Stolpi for what he described as an “important victory”. He praised the commitment of the Malta Basketball Association, under the leadership of President Paul Sultana, which in the last month alone managed to gain 4 medals – a gold medal for the male under-16 team, silver for the female under-16 team, silver for the men's national team, and the bronze medal for the women's national team.
