Dar tal-Hanin Samaritan recently hosted the launch of acclaimed Maltese architect and artist Richard England’s latest publication, Katabasis: A Stygian Odyssey. The event gathered admirers, colleagues, and collectors of England’s work for an evening celebrating the intersection of architecture, art, and mythic storytelling.
Widely regarded as one of Malta’s most influential architectural voices, England is celebrated internationally for his poetic approach to space, form, and narrative. His latest work continues this tradition, bringing together visual art and text in a richly conceptual exploration inspired by classical mythology and allegory.
England shared reflections on the book’s conceptual origins and creative process, describing it as part of his ongoing engagement with architecture as a narrative and philosophical discipline. Guests were invited to engage with the work as both a visual and intellectual journey, consistent with England’s broader multidisciplinary practice.
The publication, featuring illustrations and design by the author, is now available through Kite Group.
Richard England remains a seminal figure in Maltese architecture, with a career spanning decades of built works, theoretical contributions, and artistic explorations that continue to influence architectural discourse both locally and internationally.
