MALTA ARTS FESTIVAL – WEEK ONE

Strada
An open-air food, wine and festival taking place over South and Strait Streets, Valletta from 19:30 onwards.  

TONIGHT AND JULY 4
Ring
Puerto Flamenco performance from seasoned dancer Francesca Grima at Esplanade & Garden, Heritage Malta, BighiKalkara at 21:00. Grima will be accompanied by Eduardo Trassierra and Fyty Carillo on guitar, Oliver Miguel on saxophone, Andrej Vujicic on percussion, and singing from special guest artist Encarnita Anillo
Entrance is at €15, with €10 concessions.

JULY 5-6
’00:00-00:01’
A new reading of Swan Lake between artists from the UK, France and Malta choreographed and directed by Mavin Khoo, one of the leading dance artists in the international dance world held at Argotti Gardens, Floriana at 21:00. Also featuring Michael Pascault, Lynne Salomone Reynaud, Florinda Camilleri, Christina Aquilina, Christina Cauchi. Entrance is at €15, with €10 concessions (admittance 14 years and over).

JULY 7
Ftakar
A tribute to some of the best Maltese songs with a fun big band twist by the Big Band Brothers under the direction of Daniel Cauchi at Argotti Gardens, Floriana at 21:00. Entrance is at €15, with €10 concessions.

FRIDAYS
Gianpula Fridays
17 nights of partying (starting from May 27) featuring DJs Pierre Cordina, Tony Tony, Clayton J, JJoy, Ruby, Joseph Armani, Toby, MyKill and Carl Bee at the Main Room and Groove Gardens of Gianpula, limits of Rabat from 23:00 till 04:00. Entrance is at €6.

FRIDAYS
Bridge Bar Jazz Nights
Live jazz every Friday night at Bridge Bar, by Victoria Gate, Valletta from 21:00. Line up of locally established jazz musicians includes Marc Galea, Lawrie Simpson, Walter Vella, Effie Azzopardi and Eric Santucci. The schedule will also include some foreign surprises, visiting sporadically through the summer.

JULY 8
Lucinda DJ Night
An alternative DJ night at Hacienda, Baystreet, St Julian’s from 22:00. Featuring DJs Spectape, Davide Zane, Stivastheque, Dubious Dances.

JULY 8-10
Marsovin Summer Wine Festival
Evenings of wine and music at Hastings Garden, Valletta from 20:00. Entrance is at €10 and includes a wine glass, two €2 wine token and 12.50c wine tokens. Free entrance for youths under the age of 17 if accompanied by an adult – though they may not consume any wine.

JULY 9
Voila l’Ete Encore
An alternative party organised by Indievision Malta at Coach and Horses, Valley Road, Msida from 21:00. Featuring DJs Bob, Clint (Dolls for Idols) and Tracey.

Ms Leads Electric Set
An electric set at Rookies Bar, Bugibba featuring DJ Ms Leads from 21:30.

Multimedia annual exhibition by MCAST students at MCAST campus, Targa Gap, Mosta. Opening hours: 09:00 to 20:00.

19th Century Souvenir Illustrations of the Ggantija Temples
Exhibition of 19th century souvenirs illustrations related to the Ġgantija temples at the Citadel, Gozo Area Exhibition Hall, Victoria. Opening hours: 09:00 till 17:00 in the evening and on Saturday from 09:00 till noon.

UNTIL JULY 24
Contemporary sound installations
The Malta Association for Contemporary Music and St James Cavalier present an exhibition of installation art and contemporary music. The installations portray the work of visual artists Ruth Bianco, Austin Camilleri and Pierre Portelli in collaboration with music composers Mariella Cassar, Albert Garcia and Reuben Pace. This project is part of the Contemporary Sounds music series: introducing contemporary music to new audiences in unexpected settings.

ARTISAN MARKET

JULY 10
Patches Summer Edition
The grassroots artisan market returns to the Upper Barrakka Gardens, Valletta for its 7th edition, running from 16:30 until late in the evening, with music from Monobrowmp and Claire Tonna. The market will consist of over 50 stalls with local artisans selling their handmade wares.
