Final preparations underway for the Immaculate Conception feast in Ħamrun

The Għaqda Mużikali Immakulata Kunċizzjoni Ħamrun and the Immaculate Conception Parish are putting the final touches to the preparations for this year’s feast, with celebrations beginning on 27 June and culminating with the grand musical programme Sinfonia Maltija on 3 July

The Għaqda Mużikali Immakulata Kunċizzjoni at Ħamrun together with the Immaculate Conception Parish are in their final stages of their preparations so that in a few days the feast of the patron saint will be celebrated.

The feast will begin with the removal of the statue from its niche, which is unique, on 27 June. After the 6.30pm mass, with the help of the children present and using a wheeled cart, the statue is pulled and taken out for veneration in the middle of the church. All children are encouraged to attend so that they can take out the statue for the feast days.

The culmination of the activities by the musical society will be reached on 3 July at 8.30pm with a Vocal and Instrumental Programme performed for the first time by the new band master Mro Joseph Chircop and under the Patronage of the President of Malta.

This concert, entitled Sinfonia Maltija, will include several Maltese songs and will feature the Gozitan Folkloristic group Ogygia. They will be wearing traditional Maltese attire, dancing the Maltesina and the Maltese Medley. The public is invited to enjoy their versatility through a variety of dance routines while being entertained by a number of Maltese songs interpreted with fun, passion and vibrant energy.

They will be joined by several singers including Mike Spiteri, Ritienne Azzopardi, Neville Refalo and Zaira Chetcuti. The repertoire includes popular Maltese songs: ‘Fjura fil-Kantina’, Enzo Guzman Medley, ‘Fit-Tieġ tan-Neputija’, ‘Xemx’, ‘Tfajjel Ċkejken’, ‘L-Ewwwl Tfajla Li Ħabbejt’, ‘Kemm Hu Sabiħ’, ‘Wellidni’, among others. The concert will end with the popular hymn, ‘Lejk Tifħir Immakulata’ and the anthem of the Immakulate Conception Band.

During the concert, donations will be collected in aid of the Community Chest Fund. Every year the society thinks of someone in need and this year the committee decided that aid will be given to the Community Chest Fund.

Everyone is encouraged to attend this concert. Admission is free and will take place on the Għaqda platform in Triq Kappillan Mifsud. The concert starts at 8.30pm. On that day, fresh flowers will also be offered by parishioners to the statue of the Immaculate Conception in Pjazza Kappillan Muscat.

For the above mentioned activities seating will be provided while free parking will be available at ex-Liceo, San Gorg Preca College, Ħamrun.

All Maltese and Gozitans are encouraged to join in a family-friendly festive atmosphere in honor of the Immaculate Conception.
