DanceWorks to explore 'Alternate Realities' in new production

After last year’s successful staging of its very first production, contemporary dance company DanceWorks, is this month presenting its second and much anticipated project entitled “Alternate Realities” on the 26th and 27th October at the MITP theatre in Valletta.

The one hour long production will feature the talent of twelve established dancers who will perform to the inventive choreography by Pamela Kerr, Diane Portelli, Theresa Lungaro Mifsud and Yasmine Nuvoli. Dorian Mallia from Moveo Dance Company will also feature as a guest choreographer.

DanceWorks was established last year as a new dance company affiliated to The Dance Workshop when it had successfully staged its very first production 'Return to Innocence'.

"Alternate Realities" will explore the theme of parallel realities where as individuals, we are constantly living our own personal existence which sometimes seems to co-exist with hypothetical or fictional realities that are known only to ourselves," explains Pamela Kerr, one of the choreographers and founders of DanceWorks.

"In last year's project, we had explored a quote by Woody Allen in which he had wondered what it would have been like to live life in reverse. We can safely say that this year's theme of AAlternate Realities  is a continuation of last year's theme because whilst both themese deal with lfe and the way we live, we are exploring the added dimension of a secondary parallel, imagine set of life situations," added Ms Kerr.

Personal auras that are the effect of every individual's personality, experience and life circumstances will be another central theme explored in this production.

"We are very intrigued by these concepts which will always raise a lot of questions. Everyone holds different energies and auras and the human body can therefore be interpreted through the theory that to every action there is always an equal and opposite reaction. This triggered the idea of an alternate universe and our very own reality - that just because our personal universe, and our own auras are not tangible does not make them unreal," concludes Ms Kerr.

Alternate Realities is being accompanied by a very interesting musical score featuring works by Vivaldi, Mum, Thom Heinreich, Roger Molls nd Giovanni Sollima  amongst others.

On Saturday the 26th October, the performance starts at 8.30pm. Sunday 27th will see two performances at 6.30pm and 8.30pm respectively. Tickets are available from The Dance Workshop in Gwardamangia or from Monsoon children in Sliema and Valletta. Tickets can also be booked via email [email protected] or via by calling on 99425663.
