Some of the top names on the Maltese music scene are joining forces to perform in what is set to be the biggest musical to ever hit Malta’s shores: Rock of Ages.

Stars including Kurt Calleja, Errol Sammut, Nadia Vella, Taryn Mamo Cefai, Chris Dingli, Colin Fitz, Rachel Fabri Camilleri, Rach Tedesco Triccas and Katherine Brown will take to the City Theatre stage from 29 June, to wow audiences in a show that has been called ‘as guilty as pleasure gets’ by The New York Times.

This five-time Tony Award winning jukebox musical is built around classic rock songs from the 1980s. It features hit numbers by Styx, Bon Jovi, Twisted Sister, Poison and Europe, among others, and was penned by Chris D'Arienzo. The show first premiered in Los Angeles in 2005 and received rave reviews; it then went on to have successful runs on Broadway, the West End and across the globe.

Asked about why he has chosen this show, producer Wesley Ellul from TAC Theatre, the company behind other triumphs including the Comedy Knights and My First Time, said: “We’ve wanted to bring this show to Malta for a long time and we’re finally on the way.

“Rock of Ages is indisputably one of the best modern musicals out there. It features some truly outstanding numbers that guarantee a good time, and our fantastic cast promises to get people rocking to the inimitable sounds of the 80s… The show isn’t known as ‘Rock’s Best Party’ for nothing!”

On top of the stellar cast, Rock of Ages also includes a number of renowned names in the industry working behind the scenes, including Marc Cabourdin and Wesley Ellul as the directors of the musical, Renzo Spiteri as the musical director, Sue Vassallo on choreography, and Roger Tirazona as the vocal coach.

Rock of Ages will open on 29 June, with further show dates to be announced soon. Tickets can be purchased from www.ticketline.com.mt.

Rock of Ages is powered by XFM, Carlsberg and Pepsi. It is also supported by Sign It, Net TV, Findit.com.mt, Piccinino Lingerie, and Ticketline.com.mt.
