Symposium on how tourism can capitalise on the film industry

3.5% of tourists attracted to Malta after it featured in a film or movie.

3.5% of tourists quizzed by Malta Tourism Authority declared they visit Malta because they like what they see of Malta on screen. This led social development NGO Fondazzjoni Temi Zammit to organise a dissemination symposium for potential stakeholders asking how can the tourism industry capitalise on the film industry.

Speakers included Malta Film Commissioner Peter Busuttil who delivered an overview of the work conducted by the Malta Film Commission; Antoine Cauchi, Complex Manager at Popeye Village film set, who gave an overview of the dynamics of his enterprise; and Jean Pierre Borg, Project Manager of EuroScreen, who explained the potential of a future touch-screen film map of Malta he is creating.

Narcy Calamatta conducted a hands-on discussion among the stakeholders, including the director of Tourism at the Ministry for Tourism, Mr Julian C. Zarb.

The symposium generated new business friendships and a number of new ideas for the potential capitalisation of the tourist industry on the activity of the film industry in Malta.
