72 companies benefit from €4.5 million in EU funds to explore new markets – Fenech

Finance Minister Tonio Fenech has announced that during the past year, 72 companies had benefited from more than €4.5 million in EU funds to explore new markets.

He was closing a Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry (MCCEI) conference on franchising held yesterday.

Fenech called on entrepreneurs not only to consider only imports and exports in their internationalisation efforts, which were also important, but also to consider other avenues including joint ventures with foreign partners, transfer of technology, subsidiaries and franchising.

The Finance Minister expressed the Government’s commitment “to continue investing in workers’ training so that the labour market continues to respond to the realities of global economy”.

This while ensuring an infrastructure “of the highest level, as the Life Sciences’ Park project, the Corporate Village, the Aviation Park and the Sports and Leisure village,” Fenech claimed.

He also congratulated those entrepreneurs who had been pioneers in the franchising sector, including those in the food and catering industry, clothes’ design and other sector.

Fenech explained that since Malta had become an EU member and joined the Euro gave entrepreneurs “an important tool that they can use to expand their business, create more wealth and more jobs”

Moreover, according to Fenech, Malta had an advantage of a highly skilled and qualified workforce, something which was “recognised by foreign investors who chose to invest in Malta.

“Since Maltese workers are already offering an excellent level to foreign investors in Malta, Maltese enterprise should not shy from looking at the opportunities that exist outside Malta,” Fenech concluded.
