Today's eclipse is the most complete witnessed in Europe since 1999.

A solar eclipse has plunged much of northern Europe into darkness as the moon crosses the sun's path in a much-anticipated astronomical event.

The height of the eclipse's effects in Malta will be seen around 10:30am but cloud cover makes it difficult to view the event directly. About 40% of the sun is expected to be blocked out.
