PA confirms removal of illegal structure at Bugibba foreshore

The Planning Authority says the structure on the Buġibba foreshore has been taken down after the person responsible cooperated with its officials

An unauthorised structure on the foreshore at Bugibba has been removed following instructions issued by enforcement officers, the Planning Authority confirmed.

The authority said the removal came after the person responsible for the structure cooperated with its officials, removing the need for any further enforcement action.

"The Authority will continue to monitor the site to ensure full and sustained compliance with planning regulations and can take further action where necessary," they said on Wednesday afternoon.

On Tuesday, the Planning Authority ordered the immediate removal of the structure after being alerted to its presence, and enforcement officers investigated the report and contacted the person responsible, who said that clearances had been obtained from other entities for a jet ski operation.

The individual was formally instructed to stop the activity with immediate effect and remove the structure without delay. The authority had warned that if the structure was not removed, it would issue an enforcement notice in line with applicable legislation.

No further details were provided on the nature of the structure or the entities that had allegedly granted clearance for the jet ski operation.

St Paul's Bay mayor Censu Galea had also confirmed the structure's presence on the bay in a Facebook post, stating in the comments section that the council had taken the necessary steps.

"This wooden room has apparently been placed there without any permits. In any case no permits were issued by the council. Those who blame the council are doing a great disservice to the locality," he said.
