Supplies of O positive blood are running “dangerously” low, following days of thunderstorms and rain, keeping donors away.

The National Blood Transfusion Service urged people to make the time to donate, as  they are “faced with high demand by cancer patients, patients undergoing operations, and persons injured”.

Donors can visit the Blood Donation Department in Guardamangia every day, between 8am and 6pm, along with their ID card.

Those who have been overseas in the last four weeks, should first contact 800 743 13, to ensure that they are eligible to donate, said the National Blood Transfusion Service.
