Man in critical condition after garage explosion

A 35-year-old man is fighting for his life after an explosion in a garage in Msida.

The incident happened at around 9:20am in Triq il-Kunċizzjoni.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the man, who lives in Swieqi, was in the garage when an explosion occured and a fire engulfed the garage.  The explosion is believed to have originated from a gas tank.

A medical team and members of the Civil Protection Department assisted the man before he was taken to Mater Dei Hospital where he was certified as having sustained serious injuries. 

Magistrate Monica Borg Galea has launched an inquiry while police investigations are still ongoing.
