Man handed suspended jail term over falsified licence disc
The vehicle’s licence disc had expired in March 2026, but another disc had allegedly been cut out and placed over it in an apparent attempt to make the licence appear valid.
A 41-year-old man living in St Paul’s Bay was handed a two-year prison sentence suspended for four years after admitting to falsifying a government document related to a vehicle licence disc.
Italian national Stefano Maravigna, a graphic designer living in St Paul’s Bay, pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him before the Court of Magistrates presided over by magistrate Nadine Lia Sant.
The court heard that police stopped the accused while he was driving in Triq Burmarrad, St Paul’s Bay. Investigations revealed that the vehicle’s licence disc had expired in March 2026, but another disc had allegedly been cut out and placed over it in an apparent attempt to make the licence appear valid.
Prosecutors accused the man of falsifying an official government document and making use of a falsified document. The court also heard that the accused did not contest his arrest.
After admitting the charges, the court found Maravigna guilty and sentenced him to two years' imprisonment suspended for four years.
In addition, the court suspended his driving licence for one month.
