WATCH | Marsa murder victim Miriam Azzopardi was strangled, police say

Police are currently investigating the murder of a woman found dead in Triq is-Salib tal-Marsa. 

The 48-year-old woman has been identified as Miriam Azzopardi. Sources close to the investigation confirmed with MaltaToday that following the woman's autopsy, police are treating the case as a murder. Police later officially confirmed that the victim was strangled to death.

The body is believed to have been in the field since Tuesday night.

The body was discovered during a patrol in the area at around 10:30am, where civilians approached police officers and informed them of the cadaver.

A large number of police officers, medical, and forensic teams were on site. 

Homicide investigator and Assistant Commissioner Keith Arnaud was among those on the scene. Duty magistrate Joe Mifsud has launched an inquiry.

The site in question is the same site where the body of Sion Grech was found following her murder in 2005.
