Man jailed 12 years for raping nephew

A 26-year-old man was today imprisoned for 12 years after admitting to violently raping his own nephew back in 2009. On Monday the accused was to face a trial by jury but opted to admit the charges.

The aggressor, who cannot be named by court order shared a bedroom with the boy at his parents' house, where both shared a bedroom.

Their beds had been pushed together to prevent the boy from falling off while sleeping.

The man admitted to having sexual intercourse and oral sex with the child. He also admitted to having sex with a woman in the presence of the child.

The man also admitted waking the boy up in the middle of the night to show him pornographic films.

During the abuse the boy would scream and cry in pain, the agressor said, admitting that the abuse happened repeatedly for two years.

Court presided by Mr Justice Michael Mallia held the accused was bound to be of example to his younger nephew yet he abused this position of trust.

Furthermore the man threatened the minor into not talking to anyone else about the abuse.

Judge Mallia handed the Mosta man a 12-year-jail term and ordered him to pay all court expenses. The court also ordered the name of the accused to be listed in the list of paedophiles.

Mr Justice Michael Mallia banned the publication of the name of both the accused and the victim and issued a protection order on the child.
