Employee conditionally discharged over misappropriation

Former take-away employee pleads guilty to misappropriation, returns money and is handed a three year conditional discharge.

Keith Attard, 49, was this afternoon conditionally discharged for three years after admitting to misappropriating €1,929 to the detriment of his former employer.

The court heard how in 2011, Attard worked for Porkies Take-Away at Hamrun during which he misappropriated €1,929 to the detriment of owner Gianluca Costa. The money was entrusted to him because of his job.

Attard pleaded guilty to the charges and paid back the €1,929 he had taken.

In her decree, Magistrate Claire-Louise Stafrace noted the man's clean police record and also took into account the accused's collaboration with the investigating officers, a claim supported by Prosecuting Inspector Robert Vella.

The Magistrate conditionally discharged the 49-year-old man for three years.

Inspector Robert Vella prosecuted.
