Three plead guilty to multiple thefts

Three youths plead guilty to stealing from two vehicles, trying to steal from another two and attempting to break into Rahal Gdid Primary School, in a single night.

Two men and a woman pleaded guilty to committing number of thefts from vehicles and attempting to break into a primary school on the night of 5 February.

Dorita Spiteri, 25 of Fgura, Leon Bonnici, 24 of Paola, and Roderick Attard, 22 of Zebbug, stole sound equipment from a Ford Escort and a Toyota Corsa, both parked in Triq Sammat, Tarxien.

During their spree, the thieves tried to steal from an Isuzu Elf parked in Triq Guze D'Amato in Rahal Gdid, from a BMW in Vjal Kottoner, Fgura and attempted to break into the Paola primary school. They also admitted to damaging private property, four vehicles and handling stolen property.

Bonnici alone was charged with stealing items from residents of the St Vincent de Paul hospital in Qormi back in December 2013. The prosecution said Bonnici had again broken the law while serving a suspended sentence and under a probation order. He admitted to these charges.

Hearing the three youths plead guilty as charged, Magistrate Anthony Vella placed Dorita Spiteri under a three-year probation order. Bonnici and Attard were granted bail pending judgement next week.

Inspectors Spiridione Zammit and Jurgen Vella prosecuted, while lawyers Chris Busietta and Jason Azzopardi appeared for the accused.
