Remanded in custody over fuel theft

Court remands in custody a Zejtun man charged with stealing 92 litres of diesel from a truck while on bail.

Charles Farrugia, 35 of Zejtun, was remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to stealing 92 litres of fuel from a truck, while he was on bail.

Inspector Joseph Agius told the court that the accused was apprehended after stealing diesel from an ERF truck belonging to Joseph Attard of Qormi. Around 92 litres of diesel were found in Farrugia's possession.

The prosecution said that the accused had breached bail and committed an offence during the term of a suspended sentence. He was also charged with relapsing.

Considering the accused's innocent plea and in view of the charges raised against him, Magistrate Anthony Vella remanded Farrugia in custody.

Inspector Joseph Agius prosecuted.
