Updated | Elderly woman killed in hit-and-run incident

An elderly woman lost her life earlier this morning after she was hit by a large vehicle in Msida. MaltaToday is informed the driver allegedly fled the scene and a police search is ongoing. A bowser, belonging to a drainage services company, was stopped by the Police and the driver is being held for questioning.

The bowser belongs to Spiteri Drainage Services.

The incident happened in the area known as l-Ghajn tal-Hasselin. The woman, 75, has been identified as Maria McKay, an Msida resident.

According to preliminary investigation, the elderly woman was on a pedestrian crossing when she was hit.

Deputy Commissioner Ray Zammit, Inspector Chris Pullicino  and investigating officer Sandro Millo are on site.
