Romanian charged with assaulting neighbour
Criminal Court grants bail to Romanian national charged with causing slight injuries to his neighbour.
Florinel Nitu, 45, born in Romania and residing in Bugibba, pleaded guilty to charges of assault.
Prosecuting inspector Joseph Busuttil told the court how, in the early hours of yesterday morning, the accused assaulted a certain Stoika Myleva who lives in the same block of apartments as he does. In the assault, the victim suffered slight injuries.
When police apprehended Nitu, he assaulted the officers.
Nitu was charged with assault, inflicting slight injuries and disturbing the public peace. He admitted to the charges but denied he assaulted any officers.
Legal Aid lawyer Simon Micallef Stafrace requested bail. However the prosecution objected, arguing there were civilian witnesses still to testify in the case. Moreover, the accused was wanted by the police in the past, who spent a month searching for the man.
Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras granted bail to the accused against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €5,500.
