A 45 year old Bulgarian woman residing at San Gwann was taken to Mater Dei Hospital early this morning after she was involved in a head-on collision on the Coast Road, limits of Naxxar.

The woman's Mini 1000 collided with a white Peugeot taxi driven by a 40-year-old from Fgura.

The accident happened around 7:00am when the woman was driving a Mini 1000 towards St Pauls’ Bay while the taxi was coming from the opposite direction. It is not clear whether the taxi was overtaking another car or the driver lost control and went on the other side of the road just before the Peugeot hit the Mini.

Civil Protection personnel had to be called on site because the woman was trapped in her car. Led by officers Michel Galea and Brian Caruana, the rescuers had to cut parts of the car so they could extract the woman while a medical team gave her first aid.

The woman was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital, where she was treated and later on was certified to be suffering from slight injuries. The taxi driver did not suffer any injuries. Police closed both lanes to traffic.

District Police led by PS Alan Buhagiar and PC Joseph Chircop are investigating the accident.
