District police have arrested a German national who allegeldy crashed into a car carrying two Nationalist MPs, Censu Galea and Frederick Azzopardi, on Wednesday night at Triq ix-Xatt in Pietà.

The man was arrested at 8am on Thursday.

The two MPs were in a Toyota driven by Azzopardi when their car was stationary, near the KPMG offices in Pietà when the German, driving a Volvo with foreign number plates, rear-ended and pushed the Toyota more then 10 metres off its spot.

Following the incident, the man alighted from his vehicle and was said to have hurled insults at the two MPs. By the time the police arrived on the scene, the man had driven away.

Both Galea and Azzopardi were hospitalised and treated for slight injuries.

The search for the foreign national was on all night but it was not until the next morning that the man was arrested at his residence in Pietà. He is being kept by the police for further investigations and will be arraigned in court in the coming days.
