Housewife admits to prostituting women in Gzira

47-year-old woman conditionally discharged after admitting to prostituting women and running a brothel in Gzira.

A 47-year-old housewife was today conditionally discharged to two years after pleading guilty to running a brothel in Testaferrata Street, Gzira.

Spiridiona Caruana, 47, of Safi also admitted to prostituting women in Gzira and of being an accomplice in the running of a brothel.

Prosecuting inspector Jason Francis Sultana told the court that the accused will testify in the compilation of evidence against other persons involved in the running of the brothel. Moreover, the inspector told the court that even though the maximum sentence is that of two years imprisonment, the accused cooperated with investigations, and thus argued that a conditional discharge would suffice.

In his decree, Magistrate Carol Peralta noted that the woman released an early statement and conditionally discharged the woman for two years.

Inspector Jason Francis Sultana prosecuted while Lawyer Joe Ellis was legal aid.
