Armed robber arrested after injuring elderly man

Police arrest a man who allegedly injured an elderly man inside a Hamrun shop and made off with a few coins. 

Police have arrested a man who they believe robbed a shop in and injured an elderly man.

At 3:15pm, a man armed with a knife entered a shop on Triq id Duka ta’ Edinburgh in Hamrun and told an elderly man to hand over his money. The elderly man resisted and the thief attacked him, slightly injuring his hands. The thief robbed the man of a few coins and fled the shop.

Polcie from the Hamrun District, Department for Criminal Investigations, and the Rapid Intervention Unit were quick to arrive at the scene, and they arrested the alleged thief in Triq Atocja after a brief search.

A magisterial inquiry into the case has been launched and police investigations are ongoing.
