Policeman controls house fire in Sliema

A police sergeant was treated for smoke inhalation after controlling the house fire with a fire extinguisher and a towel

A police sergeant has been treated for smoke inhalation after he helped put out a fire at a house in Sliema last night.

The fire is thought to have started in a frying pan in a private residence in Rudolph Street at around 8:30pm last night. The unnamed sergeant fought the flames using a fire extinguisher and a towel until members of the Civil Protection Department arrived and took over. 

The three residents were safely evacuated.

The policeman was taken to Mater Dei hospital, where he was treated for smoke inhalation before being released.

Police investigations into the causes of the fire are currently underway.
