Brothers remanded in custody after joyride in stolen van

18-year-old and teen brother remanded in custody after being charged with stealing a Toyota Townace and taking it for a joyride

An 18-year-old man and his 16-year-old brother were today left to rue their folly as they remanded in custody following a joyride in a stolen van.

The accused, whose names cannot be published by court order, were arraigned today before Magistrate Doreen Clarke and charged with stealing a Toyota Townace in Ghaxaq.

They pleaded not guilty.

The court heard how the accused allegedly got into the van when they discovered that the doors were unlocked and the driver left the keys in the ignition.

The defence’s request for bail was turned down by the court, and the accused were remanded in custody.

Inspector Johann Fenech is prosecuting, while Lawyers Franco Debono and Amadeus Cachia were defence counsel.
