Three men were yesterday arrested after police observed them setting up and inviting people to play an illegal three-cup shuffle trick.

According to police, five people were observed acting suspiciously around City Gate, Valletta at around 10:00am. Officers who followed the men’s movements saw two of them open a carpet, produce three boxes and a small ball on the floor and begin to encourage passers-by to play the game.

The two men, who hail from Macedonia and Romania, were arrested.

Later, at about 2145hrs, a third man, also from Romania, was reported to be enticing people to play the same game on Triq San Gorg, St Julian’s.

He was also arrested and a carpet, three boxes and a small ball were seized.

Police investigations in connection with both cases are on going.
