The Labour Party has promised to introduce a wellbeing index to measure the impact of its initiatives.

Prime Minister Robert Abela announced the latest PL during a press conference on Saturday.

He explained that the index will be based on the following 10 factors: Environmental sustainability, quality of the local environment, health, personal wellbeing, housing, social protection, civil participation and rights, income and wealth, education and skills, and job quality.

The index will also make use of 20 indicators.

Abela also announced more proposals, such as free mental health check-ups, where one can be compensated after seeing a psychologist of their choice. This would be led by a pilot project where people of different ages undergo a mental health check-up free of charge.

Another proposal announced on Saturday is a two-day to 10-day study leave for employees, depending on the course. This will be paid leave, as a PL government would compensate employers.

Meanwhile, Abela proposed an extension to the Youth Fitness Support which gave youths free gym memberships. He explained that a PL government would seek to promote other forms of fitness and sport through a similar scheme.

The PL leader promised a free Heritage Malta passport for all, which will allow people to visit heritage sites around the islands.

Abela also spoke about previous proposals such as the promise to hold a discussion with social partners about the possibility for employees to request flexible working arrangements. He stated that employers who accept such requests would be given €1,000 to invest in technologies that measure productivity.
