PL promises breast screening services for 45-year-old women
Lydia Abela announced new pledges aimed at women and family life
The Labour Party is promising to give women over 45 years old free breast screening.
This was announced by Lydia Abela during a Mothers’ Day event on Sunday.
The prime minister’s wife said that by encouraging younger women to attend screenings, it would then be easier to treat cancer.
Abela also promised that a future PL government would launch a national education campaign aimed at destroying stereotypes surrounding families.
The event saw the participation of a number of women and mothers, as speakers emphasised that it is not enough for men, husbands, and fathers to simply help mothers out as if they are doing them a favour. Instead, the speakers insisted that men have an equal role to play in family life.
Meanwhile, Abela said that the educational campaign will help in assuring that women are seen as persons in their own right. She noted that change is needed in this regard.
Lydia Abela also announced that a new PL government would launch the first health strategy for women.
She explained that this would guarantee access to health services for women of all ages.
