The first votes of the 2026 general election are being cast on Saturday, as early voting begins.

On Saturday, voters registered in Malta will cast their vote at the Vote Counting Complex in Naxxar, while those registered in Gozo will vote at the Government Experimental Farm on Imġarr Road, Xewkija.

According to the Electoral Commission, 9,722 out of 16,402 voters eligible to vote early cast their ballots by 2pm.

Voters are reminded to take their voting document with them when casting their ballot, as early voting will remain open until 10pm.

MaltaToday found a steady stream of early voters entering and exiting the Naxxar Counting Hall on Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, party leaders released short videos making their case with early voters.

Prime Minister Robert Abela presented his party as a steady pair of hands amid international crises.

Opposition Leader Alex Borg urged voters to think of the future of their country and family when entering the polling booths.
