PN announces casual elections on 3, 5, 7, 10, 12 districts
The candidates elected on two districts that will need to vacate a seat are Alex Borg, Stephen Spiteri, Mark Anthony Sammut, Conrad Borg Manche, Adrian Delia, Rebekah Borg, and Joe Giglio
The Nationalist Party has announced the seats candidates will give up, paving the way for seven casual elections to be held across five districts
In a casual election, unelected candidates vying for the vacancy start from zero, irrespective of how many votes they would have obtained on the first count.
According to the PN’s statute, in the case of dual-candidacies the elected MP will have to give up the one with the least votes as a percentage of the district quota.
This however, would mean that PN Leader Alex Borg would’ve needed to vacate his 13 District seat.
MaltaToday reported earlier this week that sources close to the PN said that a re-interpretation of the statute was being sought so that Borg could keep his Gozo district seat.
On Friday, the PN announced that it will be holding a casual election in the 12 District, the 3 District, the 5 District, two elections in the 10 District, and another two in the 7 District.
The candidates elected on two districts that will need to vacate a seat are Alex Borg, Stephen Spiteri, Mark Anthony Sammut, Conrad Borg Manche, Adrian Delia, Rebekah Borg, and Joe Giglio.
The PN congratulated all elected MPs, as well as those who will be elected in the casual elections to be held in the coming days, and the female candidates who will be elected through the gender equality mechanism.
