Nationalist MP welcomes SMS alerts for deferred court sittings
MP says Labour proposal for simple SMS alert on deferred sittings should have been introduced a long time ago.

Nationalist backbencher Jean Pierre Farrugia has welcomed a Labour proposal to introduce a system by which the public would be alerted via an email or SMS when court sittings would have been deferred.
Reacting on Facebook to the proposal, the Nationalist MP said that such a measure should have been introduced earlier, given the technological advancements made.
"A doctor like me has long been proposing this measure - why do we have to wait for a Labour government to implement something so simple?" he wrote.
The Labour proposal was made yesterday by party leader Joseph Muscat as he announced that a future government would carry out an overhaul of the court system.

Finally our courts have been asked to join the digital age of communication well done to all the propents of this system which will avoid a lot of wasted time for all persons cocerned. Now the new system will be simply an sms saying that the court case has been deferred, deferred,deferred and the famouse last words sine die the courts have gone in sleep mode please do not disturb.

Lawrence Gonzi is also in favour of simple SMS alert and uses them.... to nominate and eliminate Members of his Cabinet!

About time too. Did Gonzi and Chris Said had some terrifying dream? For 13 1/2 years I had to go to court from 9.00am and left at about 1.30pm and the majority of the sittings were deferred.

Dr Jean Pierre Farrugia has long been proposing this measure as has Dr Franco Debono been proposing his, but GonziPN does not listen. GonziPN wwould not take heed of a petty back bencher. GonziPN only has ears for the selected septic few.

I wouldn't wonder if now we will have Dr Gonzi or some other Nationalist Party spokesman exclaiming that Dr Muscat's proposal is a 'deja'vu'!!
