In a campaign that has floated the prospect of a party financing law, the generous donations have not failed to pour in.
Labour yesterday collected €582,499 in donations dropped down their busy telephone lines, an amount on similar level as that collected by the Nationalist Party only a week earlier.
To go by their declared amounts, over €1.5 million was poured into the coffers of the two major political parties between Christmas and the electoral fundraisers - and that does not include donations from major benefactors and the proverbial entrepreneur supporting parties' electoral efforts with services in kind or hard cash.
