Elderly abuse should be given more attention – AD

Social policy measures are sorely needed to address elderly abuse AD Chairperson Michael Briguglio said.

He noted that over the past years, both in Malta and abroad, the abuse of older persons is increasingly being given due consideration as its rapid growth is recognised by policy makers. 

"AD believes that while this growing problem may not be so

visible, social policy measures are sorely needed to address it in a

holistic manner," Briguglio said.

The Green Party spokesperson for Social Policy Angele Deguara added: "Although there are various articles in Maltese legislation which deal with the problem of elderly abuse either directly or indirectly, the concept of elderly abuse should be clearly defined and addressed in a more effective way."
