FKNK congratulates Muscat, says time for spring hunting derogation

Hunters’ and Trappers’ Federation congratulate on ‘historic win’, says time to ‘correctly’ apply derogation for spring hunting and trapping season

The Federation for Hunting and Conservation (FKNK) congratulated the Labour Party and Prime Minister Joseph Muscat on Labour's historic win on behalf of its 10,000 members and their families.

The FKNK said it is convinced that the Labour Party Movement in government "will restore hunters and trappers and their respective families' dignity and respect, besides their national Maltese and Gozitan and European citizen rights."

This includes these thousands of families' rights to enjoy their privately owned Maltese countryside land, it said.

The FKNK added that it is set to carry on with the good work that it has been ongoing with the Labour working group for the last three years, which led to the issuing of the Labour Party/FKNK joint media release of the 4 March 2013.

"Thus, in the wake of a new spring, and on the bases of the media release, the Maltese government with FKNK's aid is ready to correctly apply derogation from the "Birds" Directive to permit a limited and controlled hunting and trapping open season for the turtle dove and the quail this April 2013."

Dear Never ending Story. How can you talk about citizen’s right when these negotiations actually excluded the participation of other stake-holders. The Aarhus Convention gives clear guidelines how environmental situations are subject to public debate and this contrasts starkly with the clandestine agreement between the hunting and trapping lobby with the PL. The timing of the announcements and the inevitable effect on the election results is a clear indication of the agenda behind this ploy. Is this the upholding of human rights that you are referring to? So please forgive me for calling a spade a spade.

Every EU Citizien has their rights ,and it is not IOU or payback time, it's negotiation time for peoples rights to be given back .And i'am not a trapper or hunter but i respect peoples rights to practice their hobby within the EU regulation's and legal system just like our nieghbors.
