Courts sittings have been delayed after the court buildings were evacuated due to a bomb threat.

Police said they received the call at around 9:45 am on Thursday.

The AFM explosive ordinance disposal team is currently inside the court building, assessing the threat.

In a statement, the Court Services Agency confirmed that at 9:45am; the court administration was informed by the Valletta police station that an anonymous bomb threat had been made by phone.

“Immediately, the administration, in collaboration with the Valletta police inspector, prepared an evacuation plan and called the Bomb Disposal Unit to take the necessary measures and ensure the safety of both the members of the judiciary, court employees, lawyers and the public.”

The Chief Justice was informed of the situation and upheld a request to extend the opening hours of the Court Register to ensure that the public is provided with the necessary services.

The public has since been allowed back in.
