PN’s Independence theme celebrates pride and trust in Malta
The Nationalist Party has chosen the slogan ‘Proud of our country, trust in our country’ as the theme for its yearly Independence celebrations at the Floriana Granaries.
The PN said the slogan represented pride in a country that had weathered the financial meltdown “thanks to a resilient workforce and sensible economic decisions”.
The party added that Malta proved itself to be a “bedrock of solidarity” during the Libyan humanitarian effort, and said Malta could boast to be the “ninth [country] in the world to recognise Libya’s National Transitional Council.”
The PN said Malta helped save hundreds of lives at sea, “of men, women and children who had no other option but to flee from war torn countries and seek shelter in Europe. Time and again, we put human lives before any other interest.”
And hot on the heels of a credit downgrade by Moody’s, the party said new Eurostat data confirmed Malta’s economy had “powered ahead in the second quarter, recording the fastest growth in the eurozone, with the fifth lowest unemployment rate in the EU.”
The party echoed finance minister Tonio Fenech’s declaration that Moody’s downgrade was due to Malta’s exposure to the Eurozone’s instability. “Puerile partisan bickering will get us nowhere. We need to remain focused on bread and butter issues.”
