Solidarjeta suspends Casa Paola industrial action

Solidarjeta says that after a productive meeting on the trade dispute, both parties agreed to continue discussions for a fair resolution for the care home employees

Solidarjeta has announced the suspension of all industrial actions with LyonsCare after a productive meeting that discussed issues raised in the recent trade dispute at Casa Paola.

Last month, the union formally registered a trade dispute with the management of the elderly home following their refusal to enter negotiations on a collective agreement, as well as what it described as retaliatory and intimidatory behaviour towards employees who joined the union.

According to Solidarjeta, it was officially recognised on 23 February 2026 as the sole union authorised to represent its members in collective bargaining with Casa Paola.

The union claims that the home’s management declined to begin discussions on a collective agreement covering nurses, senior care assistants, care assistants, health aides and maintenance staff.

The union also said some members had reported retaliatory actions after joining the organisation.

According to the union, LyonsCare reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a positive working environment during its meeting, noting that it remains dedicated to maintaining open communication and supporting a healthy, respectful workplace culture.

“We are pleased that a meaningful dialogue has begun, and we hope this marks a positive first step towards lasting and sound industrial relations between all parties,” Gabriel Apap, Secretary-Treasurer of Solidarjetà, said following the meeting.

Both parties have agreed to continue discussions to secure a fair and sustainable resolution that serves the best interests of the employees at Casa Paola, a priority shared by both sides.

Solidarjetà remains hopeful that continued engagement will lead to constructive solutions and a stronger partnership built on mutual respect and shared commitment to workers’ welfare.
