Civil Protection Department (CPD) employees will benefit from a new sectoral agreement signed on Monday night.

The agreement strengthens working conditions and career progression for officers within the department.

This latest agreement for the CPD follows a previous deal signed in 2021.

During the signing of the agreement, Prime Minister Robert Abela said that the agreement forms part of a broader effort by the government to improve workers’ conditions, adding that nearly 140 sectoral agreements have been concluded since 2022.

He added that the government has invested around €2 billion in wage increases alone over recent years.

Among the measures announced are an allowance of €1,500 and a minimum annual salary increase of €2,200 for each officer, along with faster salary scale progression and better working conditions.

The Prime Minister thanked CPD workers for their dedication, noting that they are often among the first responders during emergencies both in Malta and abroad.

Meanwhile, Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri said the agreement goes beyond words of appreciation.

He said that CPD employees deserve recognition through action, adding that investment is essential to strengthen the country’s ability to respond to emergencies.
