PN says government's metro plan is yet another 'silly season' proposal

The Nationalist Party has described government’s metro plan as yet another “silly season proposal.”

The Opposition was reacting to a MaltaToday interview with Finance Minister Clyde Caruana.

Caruana had told this newspaper that he will only sign off on the metro if studies show that the project is viable, warning that should this project go wrong, Malta’s finances would be in dire straits.

In a statement on Monday, the PN quoted Caruana’s interview, noting that this was not the first time he expressed doubt on the project.

The party also mentioned an interview featuring Prime Minister Robert Abela, who likewise “admitted that the project’s viability still has to be studied.”

The PN said that it is clear that the project will probably never materialise.

“By contrast, with the PN, you know where you stand. Within the first 100 days of a new Nationalist Government led by Alex Borg, an implementation framework for a mass transport project would be launched, and within the first legislature the first line of this modern transport system, so urgently needed by our country, would be completed.”
